Reintroducing Myself | Medical Student Tag

Who are you and where do you study?
My name is Esté Ginelle and I’m a third-year medical student at Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine.

When did you start studying medicine or pre-med courses?
I started in the fall of 2015.

What made you choose the medical field?
I’ve honestly never wanted anything else. I’ve told this story many times before but I was three years old and thought it would be amazing to “help make people feel better.” There’s so much more than that that goes into it but I’m up for the challenge.

How did you come up with your blog name/username?
Esté Ginelle is my actual name. Simplyeste is the username I developed in undergrad signifying that I’d always be true to myself. Onceuponaneste was created while I was finishing up my English major. I’m a writer and formed this blog mainly as one to review literature. It’s clearly evolved.

How would you describe your blog?
It’s a mix of beauty, fashion, lifestyle favorites, and medical school advice.

What’s your favorite quote?
“Cure sometimes, treat often, comfort always.” – Hippocrates

Best memory in medical school?
That moment I realized that I was officially a third-year…pure bliss!

What’s one course you struggled with?
I’m not the best student and each course presented its own difficulties but I think the one that I struggled with the most was Neuroanatomy.

What’s your favorite book?
I have no idea if I’m supposed to name a medical school related book or just one that I love in general. For school, I love love love pathoma and for leisure reading…I have too many to choose from. Check out a list here.

What do you do in your free time?
Blog, watch YouTube, fantasize about makeup, watch Netflix, hang out with my loved ones…

What do you want to major or specialize in?

Who do you look up to?
My parents inspire me immensely. Perhaps one day I’ll share how their sacrifices and love made me who I am today.

How do you study (productively)?
I need to shut my phone off and have a locked in space. No windows. I like listening to white noise or ASMR as I study. Other than that, it’s all a mind game. You’ve got to tell yourself…”let’s get down to business.”

How do you stay motivated in medical school?
I remember how I felt when I got the call that I’d been accepted into medical school. I remember how much I fought for this. The days are discouraging and reminding yourself of your dream is the only way to stay motivated.

What are your best tips for future medical students?
Remember that the road is meant to be hard. Remeber that it is what you wanted. Remember that it WILL end. Remember that you are smart enough. Remember that many others have done this before you and many others will do this after you. Just do your best.

That’s all I have for you today lovelies. Share this blog with anyone you might need a little inspiration as they move through pre-med or medical school. I tag any and everyone who’s up for a little writing. See you soon. XX!

Hi Estee! My daughter is only in high school, but she wants to be a pediatrician someday. She is also very into fashion and beauty. I would love for the two of you to connect especially as she gets closer to college and choosing the all-important major. Dr. Roper
