What made you choose the medical field?
I’ve honestly never wanted anything else. I’ve told this story many times before but I was three years old and thought it would be amazing to “help make people feel better.” There’s so much more than that that goes into it but I’m up for the challenge.
How did you come up with your blog name/username?
Esté Ginelle is my actual name. Simplyeste is the username I developed in undergrad signifying that I’d always be true to myself. Onceuponaneste was created while I was finishing up my English major. I’m a writer and formed this blog mainly as one to review literature. It’s clearly evolved.

How do you study (productively)?
I need to shut my phone off and have a locked in space. No windows. I like listening to white noise or ASMR as I study. Other than that, it’s all a mind game. You’ve got to tell yourself…”let’s get down to business.”
How do you stay motivated in medical school?
I remember how I felt when I got the call that I’d been accepted into medical school. I remember how much I fought for this. The days are discouraging and reminding yourself of your dream is the only way to stay motivated.
What are your best tips for future medical students?
Remember that the road is meant to be hard. Remeber that it is what you wanted. Remember that it WILL end. Remember that you are smart enough. Remember that many others have done this before you and many others will do this after you. Just do your best.
